Elderly cat who has spent 10 years confined to a tiny bathroom, declawed and matted, finally gets rescued, and the internet comes together to get the funds for all the treatment she needs to finally feel better again: 'We knew she was a fighter'

Finally, this imprisoned cat has found freedom.

Generally, cats are creatures that don't need much. They need food, they need water, they need someone to change their litter every once in a while, and a little love to be given to them every once in a while, when they need it. Cats like their homes, they like their space, and they don't like leaving. But even cats have a limit. And confining a cat to a single bathroom for ten years is a level of horrible treatment that we have not quite heard of yet.

Cats may not need too much, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve the extras. Cats should be spoiled. That is our job as their humans. To make sure that they are as happy as they can pawssibly be in our homes. That might mean giving our cats boxes to sit in and spreading a bunch of them all throughout the house. It might mean wrapping our cats in blankets and tucking them into our beds, giving them peak comfort at all times. These little things matter, and this poor kitty got none of them. For ten whole years. But that is all over now. Finally, she is in the right hands, living the life that she truly deserves.

Goodness, the thought of this poor thing being confined to a bathroom for ten years has to be one of the most heartbreaking in the world. We could not imagine doing this to any living creature for a day, let alone for 10 whole years. The relief that she feels, now that she has been rescued, must be amazing. Of course, she doesn't know much else, and she must be scared of the change, but it must feel like the whole universe has opened up to her. So many new things to explore, so many places, so many smells. She must feel alive for the first time in ten years, and we are so, so thankful to the person who rescued her and made that happen.

And we have to say a huge, huge thank you to the internet as well. This is what we are here for. This is what the internet should be for. We could only wish that this would happen more often - that people would come together to do kind things like this, to help save animals in need, to make a real, positive change in the world. It gives us hope for humanity, really, to see things like this happening online. There are so many good people out there.
